Ventura Girls

This is the RHYTHM DEMO for my in-development project Ventura Girls. It's my first major foray into game development and I'm having a great time. Huge credit to the band Pachoink for the awesome music, check em out!

This is only one piece of a much larger puzzle, but if you're into rhythm games, give mine a play. More huge credit to Dysploom for Rhythm Timeline, which is making my dev journey a helluva lot easier.

FULL GAME DESCRIPTION

It’s the summer of ‘69 and you’re travelling down the coast from who-knows-where to Los Angeles, the center of the universe. It’s a wild time to be alive and making music; there’s men being sent to space and brought back from war, but that’s all just background noise for you and your bandmates who make up the three-piece band Ventura Girls. Jenny says she has an estranged aunt in the city who works in TV or something, and you all have had enough of playing suburban prom nights — you’re ready to hit the big time, man. Unfortunately, your plans come to a hitch when your van get stolen; and all your gear with it!

Venture through the vibrant cityscape, encounter an array of eccentric characters, and collect unique gear along the way. Since the Ventura Girls are a tight-knit group, you'll discover that as the player, you control all three of them: every dialogue choice allows you to decide which girl responds, shaping the band's journey and interactions with the world around them. Each girl has her own personality, which some may like, but others may not… play your cards right and who knows, maybe someone you talk to will help you land a sweet gig.

But where words may not suffice, music speaks: rock out with the rhythm gameplay, where you’re also in command of the band’s musical destiny. There will be opportunities to play songs around town; choose one of the three instruments to determine the difficulty, and jam out to an original soundtrack. The score you earn in the rhythm sections influences the band’s opportunities as well. Say, I heard there’s a pretty big music festival coming up…
